Jawbreaker Rings

Since it's kind of hard to bisect a jawbreaker, I'm thinking I shouldn't put the experiment in the book. But isn't the result beautiful?

The "tree-rings" come from the process of panning the candy.

  1. That is pretty cool looking. I'm glad you did it for me so I can see it - not such an easy thing to break in half I imagine?

  2. It's not that hard to break if you deliver a good solid hit to the top. The problem is that the jawbreakers roll around, so they're hard to smash the first time, which is why I didn't include it in the book manuscript. Kids might smash their fingers if they tried it unsupervised. I wonder if there's anything a little flatter that would have the same kind of rings.
